And now for the Samuel updates...
Samuel is now 17 weeks old... 4 months old tomorrow by date. We will go tomorrow for his 4-month well-baby visit. More vaccinations await my baby at the pediatric clinic. I really am praying that he does as well or better than he did two months ago. We will see!
Samuel is a very happy and peaceful baby. He is not fussy unless he has some gas on his tummy. He is still a good eater and sleeper for the most part. He has not slept through the night in several weeks (since the first time I reported that he did); but he is usually down six hours. We truly look forward to the weekends because he is sleepy when we all get home. We usually have to work to keep him awake for a while after his 6:00 feeding.
He is holding his head up very well and can pull his shoulders up when he's laying on his tummy. He really enjoys sitting up, but spends most of his upright time trying to stand up. He is very strong and can use his legs to completely raise himself up. If he could balance himself, he would be standing on his own! He has discovered how to raise his legs while he's lying on his back so that he can grab his toes. He hasn't quite gotten his toes up to his mouth yet, but I don't think it will be long. He rolls from his tummy to his back but hasn't figured how to get from his back to his tummy. He easily rolls from side to side.
Samuel loves anything colorful and often tries to reach out and grab some object that dangles in front of him. He grasps some things, but hasn't accomplished holding onto anything for long periods of time yet. I think the thing he likes most is Tadbit... a little security blanket with a turtle on the front. He can play with the head and arms. Samuel likes to look at Tadbit and then put Tadbit's head in his mouth. You can see a picture with Tadbit in one of today's earlier posts.
Have I mentioned yet that my son is a drool monster? We think teeth may be on the way.
Also, his hair is worth mentioning. You may see on some of the photos/video that the hair on the top of his head sticks up. We can't make it lay down flat. But even funnier, is that he has some
Alfalfa hair. It's hard to capture on film, but he has 3 or 4 hairs that are really long - there from birth.
Tomorrow, I will talk to the doctor about starting Samuel on solid food. Not really baby food, but perhaps some cereal with his milk. I think he is ready for something more substantial. I think it will help him sleep better and perhaps be more content between feedings. I am also going to ask about formula suggestions. I am still breastfeeding and happily doing so, but our schedule is about to get more hectic and I think I need a backup. I also think having a formula option will make me feel better. I currently only pump enough for the next day and that can be stressful. If I don't get enough, I end up trying to pump in the middle of the night... worrying if Samuel will wake up in the next few minutes... wake up his Daddy... then I'll be out of milk since I just pumped... What a dilemna, huh?
I suppose that's it for now.
